Membership:  WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL?!?!
If you are like most people in our community, you have asked yourself  "What do I need a community membership for?" To save you the trouble of thinking up an excuse, we’ve listed the most common ones:
  • I don’t use the facilities.
  • I’m retired.
  • I don’t have children.
  • There isn’t anything there that interests me.
  • The community association doesn’t do anything for me so why should I buy a membership?
  • It costs too much. ($15.00/family, $5.00/seniors & singles)
If any of these reasons sound familiar to you, you wouldn’t believe how familiar they sound to your board of directors!

Did you know that registration with sports associations like Trails West Hockey have bylaws requiring that players must have a valid Community Membership to register?

Your community association represents you and your community in a number of areas. Specifically, over the past year, your community association has:
  1. Met with representatives from surrounding communities (Ward 8 Presidents Committee, CFB West Traffic Committee) to discuss traffic issues that affect all of us.
  2. Arranged public information meetings regarding the development in our community.
  3. Regularly met with Alderman Madeleine King in order to keep her aware of issues within our community and neighboring area.
  4. Met with developers to ensure new developments near our area enhance our community – not detract from it.
  5. Endeavored to make our community centre a viable, profitable and well-used facility so that we can re-establish and continue to support non-profit groups such as Scouts and Kidzinc.
  6. Raised funds to sponsor activities in the community such as park and play, park and stay, and youth leadership programs.
  7. Organized various community events such as skating parties and jellybean dances that provide wholesome activities for youth in the community.
So WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL? you ask.  Let’s put some perspective on your membership, shall we?   $15.00 = $1.25 per month:
  • less than a coffee at Tim Horton’s
  • about the price of a chocolate bar
  • less than the price of a Lotto649 ticket
  • about the cost of a can of pop from a vending machine
  • less than a McDonald’s Medium Fries
Please make an effort to fill in a membership form or contact Gord Leach at 249-5900.  This is about your life, your community, and it’s about YOU.
